El Camino Trip 2019 – Planning

Atlas Mountains, I am coming! When I was a child, I wanted to become a cartographer, and that’s why I loved to watch maps about all of the world. Search small islands on oceans, etc. In Hungarian the map is “atlasz”, so it is a must to visit these mountains.

It was so hard to wait until summer to have my new journey. As you could expect from last year, I have so many plans where to go, visit and meet new people, and a new Trip was desired to happen soon.

I just turned into 28, and I was thinking what would be that really interesting and exciting trip where I could relax and could enjoy every single minute of it. By the way, since last summer I have another new hobby, or become fanatic, dancing Kizomba, (Salsa and Bachata). As a result Angola, the place of origin of Kizomba would be a good destination, but getting there through wild Africa is not my preference YET. Yet, but later need to go there as well. 🙂

The only thing what I knew is that I want to do another round trip.

Although Angola is far away, but Africa is not, and I had already plans to go to Gibraltar. But if I’m there, shall I stop? Nope. I have not been outside of Europe, so this is the time. I planned to go to Spain, then to Africa to Morocco, through Algeria to Tunisia, back to Italian Peninsula and home.

Plan A)

Since my Europe Trip 2018, I have several world tourer friends, and finally it turned out, that I am not eligible to go to Algeria from Morocco because of political situations. What a pity! I would love to get round Mediterranean Sea. 🙂 No problem, re-planning. Africa is for sure, then visit Morocco more deeply. Challenge accepted!

Europe Trip 2018 – Summary

After several years one of my dream came true, in 12 days I rode around Europe. 🙂
It was so spontaneous decision, just wanted to rode to the Alps originally, but finally I decided to go around. I am still young, and have so many plans to achieve before I start family with kids.

Ride for Matter

Two years ago I started an initiative for riders, that if we can have fun of riding, and also we can share it with others, let’s do it. As well, I attended some additional charity activity, so it was so obvious to ride for matter/charity. That’s why I offered my trip for healing of Erdélyi Rolika. He was born in November 2009 in Zalaegerszeg Hospital. He was only four months old when he had his first brain surgery. It turned out that this brain was covered with cysts, which could not be removed. At eighteen months of age, he had a lifesaver’s skull surgery, after which he received a cerebrovascular infection. Rolika had developed nicely in comparison with the circumstances, he had already attended in the Pooh’s kindergarten. But it turned out that it has myelodysplastic syndrome, which can only be cured by transplanting bone marrow stem cells. Now he is 8 years old, he learned to walk with equipment, and tell ferry tails by memory in a so kind manner. If he can achieve what he decided, there is no excuse to make my dream come true. He gave me passion to do it! 🙂

I could talk to his mom, and in August 2018 I will ride to him with some additional riders, and I will give a T-shirt and some toys to him what I brought abroad. 🙂

Day 17 – Kraków, Poland – Poprad, Slovakia – Jósvafő, Hungary – Budapest, Hungary

I didn’t get up early, because I wanted to enjoy every second of my trip far from home. 🙂
I walked a short around the hotel, and packed my bag and box so lazily. 🙂

I put my bag back to my motorcycle, said goodbye to my room and started my rode to home.
At the beginning to get closer to Zakopane, Poland which is one of the most visited place by Hungarian riders, I went up to the motorway.

The road was very nice and serpent-like. I arrived to Zakopane area and I had to rode within smaller villages where they were repairing the roads, so it was a mass. In additional, even the sky was so clear during my ride here, I saw a so dark could especially above the mountain next to Zakopane, Poland.

I stopped in a Shell petrol station in Zakopane, Poland, where I decided to put on my raincoat, and started my road on the serpentines. Soon I had to be disappointed, the Road Oswalda Balzera was closed due to the raining in the mountain. No way, the best part of the area is not available. I had to do a bypass to get to Road 66, but that’s why I could get off the raincoat immediately. It was so hot, within the raincoat it was around 37°C without any rain on my way, so I was so happy to take off.

I arrived to the border of Slovakia at a small steam near Lysa Polana, Poland, it was so nice and continued my trip to area of Poprad, Slovakia on Road 66. 🙂

I was really interested in the roads of Slovakia, because I heard a lot about these roads.

Long and serpent-like roads through the hills around Low Tatras. 🙂

Later I was satisfied with the roads in the mountains, especially loved Road 66 after Poprad, Slovakia. It was so exciting. 😀

In the afternoon I arrived to the border of Hungary in Aggtelek, Hungary, where I felt to be a weight off my mind as arrived back to Hungary, but as well, I was a bit sad, because I arrived home (country), and to be honest, I would have turned back if I could. 😀

Just to continue gathering more and more experiences, I decided to visit Jósvafő, Hungary, I was there about 15 years ago. 🙂 The serpentine was so exciting, I loved it, didn’t remember for this road, but was phenomenal. 😀

Later, I started my road to my hometown, to Miskolc, Hungary. I visited my grandparents, and I got confused soon. In my long journey the only confusion was in Swiebodzice, Poland, where a cat walked back and forth on my motorcycle. I was a bit upset. But the first place where I saw that someone touched my motorbike. I got so upset: “nowhere else, but in my hometown”.

I met my grandparents, they were so happy that I visited them. Anyway, I promised I visit them in July, I did it. :’D

Around 6PM I decided to leave Miskolc, Hungary, and went up to the motorway and rode until Deák Ferenc Square, Budapest, Hungary, which is one of the meeting point for riders in Budapest, Hungary. 🙂 I met some guys there, drunk an energy drink with them, and chat sometime with each other.

Around 9PM I arrived home, and was so proud that I arrived home from a my first long journey around Europe. I decided to do again in next years, because it was a very good challenge.

Day 16 – Swiebodzice, Poland – Oswiecim, Poland – Kraków, Poland

I got up quite early as I didn’t feel so good at this hostel, perhaps I was too indulged in the past few weeks. Early I packed everything, drunk a coffee and started my run to Krakow, Poland.

Around Posmyk, Poland I decided to check the forest, so I came down from the motorway. I stopped at a carstop, when I met the Google Street View Car. Soon I will be available there. 😀

Originally I wanted to ride to Warsaw, Poland, but when I stopped to get some fuel around Myjomice, Poland I checked the weather around there, and it was raining everywhere there.

That’s why I decided to turn south and rode to Oswiecim, Poland. Perhaps you may know it as Auswitz. As I had some relatives died long time ago, I visit every time, and leave some stone on the entrance for paying tribute for their memory.

I continued my trip to Krakow, Poland, but around Katowice, Poland it was raining again, so I stopped to get some fuel and put on my raincoat again.

Finally I arrived to Krakow, Poland, and rode around the city. In March I had been there, so I wanted to check what changed in last few months there. I stopped around Wawel Castle, Krakow, Poland, rode around the city. 🙂 It was very nice, again. 🙂

Finally I tried to buy a picture frame for my friend, so I rode around all suvenier shop, but couldn’t find it again. I had to give up, as almost all shop closed, so I decided to visit my last accomodation.

I was so surprised when I arrived. It was a hotel outside of Krakow, Poland. So good place to spend my last night, and also an awesome place to watch one of the biggest full moon eclipse of the century. Although in Hungary it was cloudy, in the area of Krakow, Poland it was so clean, no cloud, warm and nice. 🙂

I went to a restaurant, and watched the moon eclipse from there. It was interesting, but I was a disappointed as I expected much red moon. 😀

I went back to the hotel around 11PM, and relaxed a lot.

Day 15 – Trittau, Germany – Berlin, Germany – Swiebodzice, Poland

I got up quite late, but I knew that that day will be mainly on motorway again, so I was not afraid again. In the morning I packed everything and I was ready to leave Susanne’s house, but with a cup of coffee we talked about 1-2 hours. She is a coach and started to analyse me and we talked about these topics. It was so interesting. Perhaps it was around 11AM when I leave the house, she hugged me, and we said goodbye to each other. 🙂

I went up to the motorway and I didn’t stop until Berlin, Germany which is a so big, but nice city. I found the people much friendlier elsewhere from the capital of Germany, but the city itself was phenomenal. It was so beautiful. Large, wide roads, old and historical building everywhere. 🙂

I left behind myself Berlin, Germany, and continued my road to Poland on Road 13. I arrived to Poland, where I got some refreshments, and continued my road to Swiebodzice, Poland.

I was so disappointed when I went back onto the motorway. In Germany the quality of the road was so good, but when I went through the border it changed so significantly. I rode around 20 km with a speed limit of 70 km/h on motorway (which was because of the road conditions) and decided to leave motorway and rode on simple road. It was a huge change in road conditions. Although the motorway was terrible, but 1 km away the country road was recently repaired. It was so lovely to ride in huge forests, avoiding smaller villages, but the tempo was granted. 🙂

I stopped to Boleslawiec, Poland where I could get some fuel and rest a bit. 🙂

Some time later I had to cross the motorway again, which was already in the quality as it was before in Germany. Perhaps only the first 30-40 km is so terrible in Poland from the direction of Germany. But I couldn’t understand why? This is the first view of Poland when someone just cross the border. I don’t think this is the best insight building. But it was fixed, just I had to ride some more kilometer to arrive there. 😀

Therefore I continued my road on Road 18 motorway between Tuplice, Poland and Lawszova, Poland. After back to country roads, which roads was much similar to Danish roads, but the drivers were much similar to Hungarians. 😀 Riding a bit faster than the limit, but the traffic was going efficiently.

Finally I arrived to my accommodation, which was in Swiebodzice, Poland. It just turned out that it is a hostel, but as I couldn’t understand Polish, and Google Translator could neither translate is for me, I expected something good.

The hostel was quite nice, the room was extremely simple, two beds one furniture and a chair. Nothing special, but I was just got used to nice and friendly homes in the past two weeks. Never mind.

My only problem was with the hostel, that I was walking down to the ground floor, but the staircase was made of authentic wood, and was lacquered and also polished. As a result, I fall off which was not planned, at all. It was not so serious, but after 550 km my back was not prepared for this trauma. That’s life, but later I was so careful. Didn’t need another fall, because I had another two days to get home, with safe and in one piece. 🙂

But at least the steam on the other side of the road was nice. 🙂

As there was no restaurant and especially nothing around the hostel, I had to eat my snacks. The best thing was that a bottle of water was provided in the room. Perhaps the only positive point, unfortunately.

Finally at night I watched again some episodes from Lost in space and perhaps went to sleep around 1AM.

Day 14 – Copenhagen, Denmark – Billung, Denmark – Trittau, Germany

As we had an adhoc small party last night, I was so tired in the morning. But I was motivated, and relaxed, and recharged myself for a new trip back to Germany. 🙂

I prepared my bag and box, and I had help by Bence who brought me down my bag to the motorcycle. We discussed that soon, when he will be in Budapest, we will continue and I said goodbye for him. He went to work, and I started my trip first to the center of Copenhagen. Two years ago I loved Copenhagen, Denmark very much, it is so authentic, and so friendly city. A place where I would really live in the future.

I rode through the city, and wanted to see the harbor again, it was so nice as I could remember from my previous journey.

I visited Freetown Christiania, Copenhagen, Denmark again. As I was afraid of the safety of my motorcycle there, I just stopped for a short time, look around again, but I was not allowed to take a picture there. Moreover, I put my GoPro into my box, just to prevent all issues with the visitors there. 😀

Later I continued my trip to the dock area, where I stopped to take some photo, and continued my ride to Germany.

On the way back to Funen Island from Zealand Island, I put back my camera, because I wanted the record the route on the bridge.

In addition, when I was riding to Copenhagen, Denmark two days before I saw a table about Wiking Museum, then I saw a huge advertisement about Panzer Museum. I couldn’t skip it, never ever.

I changed my ride to Panzermuseum East in Slagelse, Denmark. 🙂 This museum is mainly about the military units of the Soviet are after the World War 2.

Some days ago one of my friend was joking about visiting LegoLand. Quite easily I got back to the peninsula of Denmark, where I turned to north just to visit LegoLand in Billund, Denmark.

It was so nice, although I didn’t spent to much time there, but lots of (crying) kids and bright-eyed adults from around the world. 🙂

I continued my trip back to Trittau, Germany

It was not so interesting on the way back, unfortunately. However I was riding around when I had to stop, because although in Denmark everywhere the weather was so nice, on the continent it was terrible. At least around Hamburg, Germany it was raining, and there was so many lightning and dark clouds in front of me. Although it was not the best decision, but on the emergency lane I stopped and put on my raincoat, just to be safe. It was a good decision, because 5 mins later I was riding in a very heavy rain for 30-40 mins. I turned on my emergency lights and went as there wouldn’t have been any difference. 😀

I arrived to the house of Susanne in Trittau around 6PM, where I could have some rest and walk around the village. It was so nice, and ate some Italian meal again. 😀

In Denmark unfortunately I got another addiction, which was the Lost in space on Netflix, so I watched all night long. Perhaps it was not the best decision, but it was so entertaining, so I just simpy watched from episode to episode. 😀

Maybe around 2-3AM I got asleep. 😀

Day 13 – Copenhagen, Denmark

I don’t know why but I got up early, so I saw Laura, Bence’s girlfriend to go to work, and Bence got sick so this day was about chill for me.

Could you find my motorcycle? 😀

We watched a movie, and then I went to the Amager Strandpark to continue my relaxing day. I ride his cycle, so was still on two tires, and spent the whole afternoon on the beach. 😀

First of all I swam in the North Sea, which was the first sea which I got into. 🙂 I had been to Croatia, but I didn’t have time to get into the sea at that time. Now I didn’t have any excuse. It was not so cold anyway, I liked it very much. Just those shells everywhere. 😀

Later Laura and Bence joined to me, so we could relax all together on the beach. It was funny, we could talk a lot, and chill, obviously. 🙂

The main thing is that my skin got burned and dried (because of the sunshine and hot weather), what I thing not so many people can say at home. 🙂

Later we got back home, and I made some hot dogs for my hosts for some compensation. 😀

I was thinking about the rest of my trip, and I was a bit afraid of Sunday plans to ride home North Italy in one day when I wanted to enjoy the road at the same time. Thus Bence and Laura convinced me to ride a circle instead of a moon-shape, so I changed my reservations for Germany, Switzerland and Italy to Poland instead. It was quite easy, and I could manage my private rooms in 1-2 hours. It was quite obvious, I am easily persuadable. 😀

We talked a lot, and perhaps around 1-2AM we could go to sleep, cannot remember, time just gone. 😀

Day 12 – Trittau, Germany – Copenhagen, Denmark

On Monday morning I was so relaxed and ready for my next run finally to Denmark.

I had so much time, so I had a shower again, easily packed my bag and box, prepared my motorbike for my next ride, and finally I had some time to drink a coffee with my host, We talked a bit, and around 9AM I could start my journey to Copenhagen, Denmark.

I went up to the motorway to shorten my ride to get to Danish area. I think I rode though one of the most beautiful view of the landscape from a bridge near Borgstedt, Germany. Unfortunately I could not take a picture as it was a motorway, but somehow later I will, somehow. 🙂 It was so nice. 🙂

Unfortunately near Borgstedt, Germany there was a rain, so I had to stop at the first parking area to put on my raincoat while it was around 28°C. But finally even I was in an oven, it was much better when it started to rain. In 40 mins I could also get off the raincoat as I rode through the rainy area. 🙂

I arrived to Denmark, especially the area of Hammelev, Denmark when I thought the motorway was enough, I wanted to see the buildings and people there, so came down from motorway, and started my journey on simple roads. It was so beautiful, but as I decided to avoid motorway, the GPS immediately routed me back to Finshav, Denmark which would have been additional 2 hours trip, and I would have arrived to the same place just on a bypass road.

Therefore after 20-30 mins I turned back, and continued my way on motorway to Funen Island (middle one) via Little Belt Bridge to Jutland Island. The view from the bridge was phenomenal, so nice to see seas everywhere.

I arrived to Funen Island where I stopped for a bit for refreshments. 🙂 There was some clouds so I had to check what is happening here. Nothing, just all clouds from Norway went to Central Europe, but it didn’t give any rain to Funen Island. 😀 I was afraid a bit to smoke because of the dry weather, but I could find an area where it was safe, so I let it go. 😀

Quite soon I continued my road to Copenhagen, Denmark, but on the motorway I just saw a table with Wiking Museum advertisement in 10 km what I couldn’t skip. 😀

Anyway I decided to ride on all bigger islands, so the time just arrived to leave motorway. The roads were in so good condition, long roads through hills filled with wheat. 🙂

Finally I arrived to Wiking Museum at Ladby, Denmark. I could see an original Wiking Ship, Ladby Ship, from 9th-10th century. It was interesting. 🙂

And anyway the landscape was also so nice. 🙂

I got some raven feathers from the curator as the symbol of the Wiking warriors here in Denmark.

It was nice and I could have some rest so I went back to the motorway and was really looking forward for the Great Belt Bridge which is one of the most beautiful and third longest suspension bridge of the world, the first outside of Asia. 😀

Oh it was so amazing. 🙂

I arrived to Zealand Island where I paid the toll for the bridge (125 DK) and it was just one hour to get to Copenhagen, Denmark.

I didn’t want to waste so much time on the main island, so without any stop I just rode to the flat of my friend in Copenhagen, Denmark. We hadn’t met for 1.5 years and I could only stay for two nights so, I didn’t have so much time. But I will, when I will be on the way back to Trittau, Germany.

Around 7PM I arrived to Amager Vest area of Copenhagen, Denmark, and finally we met with Bence. Awesome. 😀

We parked my bike to the cycle park and get into the flat finally. It was so good to put off my leather clothes, it was around 32°C all around Denmark. There way no cloud at all, anyway I arrived to the warmest summer in the last 100 years to North Europe, so I was so happy. 😀

And I was a bit hungry 😀

Day 11 – Guoda, Netherlands – Trittau, Germany

Next morning I was very tired, I felt I had to get used to daily runs again, but had already known what to expect.

I drunk a coffee at the garden what I found only in the morning. Unfortunately I didn’t meet my host, Dafna, but it was still a really friendly place to sleep one night.

I packed everything again, and put back to my bike. As there was no-one at home, I checked two-three times all of my belongings before I closed the door, because I left the key on the ledge next to the kitchen. 🙂

Unfortunately the most important rope was torn which fastenated my bag, so I had to buy one later.

It was around 8AM when I could start my run to Germany, just one stop before Denmark. 😀

I decided to avoid motorways as I had enough time to get to my accommodation around Hamburg, Germany, so I selected the simple road instead. Although the limit was quite low, I think it was still enjoyable. The view was phenomenal, Hills and plains changing each other, but so wonderful villages. The only thing which made me afraid is the speed bumps. The first time when we met was a bit funny, as if you looked them they are just painted. But no, it is 10-15 cm high anyway, so I jumped a bit first time as I rode with around 50 km/h. 😀 Anyway it was good, but I slowed down later because I configured its suspensions to strongest, so it was not the best to feel. 😀 Not a problem, the countryside compensated me. 🙂

I stopped at a petrol station to get my tank full of fuel, and bought a new tension rope for my bag.

The weather was so nice, it was around 26-30°C without any cloud. 🙂

I continued, and arrived to Germany. I knew that this area I will love very much. I was right. The roads are in so good condition everywhere.

But there was one thing what I forgot. Just to look at my GPS. I ran into a Speed Camera outside of any town, but I rode faster than the limit (around 120 km/h at 100 km/h limit), so a picture was taken while I was riding. (I am still waiting for the fine, we will see.)

As a result, obviously I kept the limit everywhere, but after one hour riding in Germany I felt in a crossroad around Bakum, Germany that I wanted to try the motorway where there is no speed limit.

I stopped to eat something, refresh myself. 🙂

So I went up and rode to Hamburg, Germany on Road 1. It was very interesting, three lanes, but left lane was only used by powerful cars, sometimes by me. 😀 middle lane for us, riding around 130 km/h, and right lane for especially trucks.

Around 8PM I arrived to Trittau, Germany where I was shocked by the house. It was so beautiful at a beautiful environment. I was so happy, and Susanne welcomed me immediately. I could park in her private garage, and prepared my bike. Again, you know, Chain Lube.

My room was on the upper floor, a huge private room, family photos and books everywhere. The house was full of pictures of the kids, who are now adults with kids. But Susanne was very friendly and lovely.

She suggested me a very good Italian restaurant close to the house, so I ate there. I didn’t regret it, it was very good. 🙂

Around 10PM I got back to the house and could go to sleep. I was not tired at all, but had to have rest before my trip to arrive to my friend in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Day 10 – London, United Kingdom – Dover, United Kingdom – Belgium – Guoda, Netherlands

It was Saturday morning, the next day to continue my trip around Europe. I had a shower, walked for my motorbike to my office’s parking area, and rode back to the hotel.

I received an SMS from DFDS that I should have expected high traffic around the checking so they proposed 90 mins to arrive earlier. So to prevent any problem, I was in a hurry a bit. I packed everything into my bag and box, put it back on my motorbike, and say goodbye for my beatiful hotel.

I leaved the area of London, and immediately felt that I am happy, because I am on the road again.

I stopped just for some minutes at the border of the city to get some petrol, when I was shocked. I received a Danish message from my host in Rotterdam, that she cannot provide me accomodation, just she forgot to update the availability of the room on Airbnb, so instantly I reserved another place, but premilinary I asked confirmation from the host if it was available or not. Fortunately the host replied in 10 mins, so my destination changed from Rotterdam, Netherlands to Guoda, Netherlands, just 10-20 km far from each other. My initial shock had gone, so I could continue my trip to the ferry, without any problem.

I arrived to Dover, where I hoped that I could get up to an earlier ferry, but my original ferry was the only one, and also the traffic was so slow around the checkin, so I felt it was okay, I wait until it’s my turn. In 40 mins I could check in to the ferry, but it was Saturday afternoon, I think it is acceptable. My only problem was to wait in the sunshine another 45 mins for getting onto the ferry. It was so hot, 34°C, unbelievable.

But I was not sad, because I could talk to new riders, especially I became friend with Mac Toyoda, who rode from Japan to Europe in 2015 with his bike, and every year he comes back to ride around most beautiful places in Europe. He originally started his trip in Germany this year, rode to Ireland, and at that time he was heading to Norway. I invited him to Hungary, and will be happy to meet him again later on.

I ate the same again, some Lasagne, which was failsafe for the rest of my trip today.

We arrived to Calais, France in 90 mins, so I could proceed my trip to Guoda, Netherlands. It was around 18PM when I could get out of the traffic in Calais, France, so I didn’t have other option than go up to the motorway at least for the first part of my trip for today.

I rode to Belgium where I could have some rest, and where I realized and look around. there was only one thing which I didn’t calculated with previously. The time zone change, so I am one hour ahead to London, UK, so I didn’t have another option, than continue my ride on motorway until Rotterdam, Netherlands.

Then I continued my ride on motorway, and without any stop I arrived to the area of Rotterdam, Netherlands. It was one of my favorite place, everywhere awesome buildings and beautiful bridges. 🙂

I turned to Guoda, Netherlands and finally in 30 mins I arrived to my place. Unfortunaly it was around 9:30PM, so I just applied Chain Lube, locked my motorbike to a lamp post on street, and got into the house. There was no-one at home, the key was under the “left” plant. 😀

It was a very friendly detached house, with 2 floors. Obviously my private room was on the top floor, so it was so good bring my bag and box up there. Not a problem, it was a very lovely place, but the mosquitos what I hated by the way. 😀 Dafna house
